Secretaries Board communique: 11 September 2024

The Secretaries Board met today at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to discuss the following matters. 

Strategic Outlook

The Board discussed government priorities, emerging risks and strategic issues.

The Board received an update on geostrategic issues from Ms Jan Adams AO, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Mr Steven Groves, Chief Finance Officer, Department of Defence (representing Mr Greg Moriarty AO, Secretary, Department of Defence).

The King and Queen to visit Canberra and Sydney in October

Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel to Canberra and Sydney during their visit to Australia from 18 to 23 October.

The King and Queen will be welcomed to Parliament House in Canberra by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. His Majesty will address a reception for political and community leaders, and prominent Australians who have excelled in the fields of health, arts, culture and sports. Their Majesties will also lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial and visit the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander memorial, ‘For Our Country’. 

53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting

From 27 to 29 August, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders’ Meeting in Tonga. He was joined by Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Pat Conroy.

Australia is a proud founding member of the PIF. The forum brings together Leaders from 18 Pacific countries and territories annually to discuss shared challenges and regional solutions, including shaping a peaceful, prosperous and resilient region.
