REVOCATION OF APPOINTMENT OF MINISTER OF STATE
I, DAVID JOHN HURLEY, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, pursuant to section 64 of the Constitution, hereby revoke the appointment of WILLIAM RICHARD SHORTEN to administer THE DEPARTMENT OF THE PRIME MINISTER AND CABINET.
During his visit to London, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street to discuss the Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement, AUKUS and our efforts to support an open, prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region.
In their third meeting, the leaders welcomed the historic Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA) coming into force on 31 May this year, following the expected completion of UK domestic processes. Australia remains focused on delivering significant opportunities for our business, consumers and workers.
The Prime Minister and the Minister for the Public Service today announced the Albanese Government will recommend the Governor General appoint Dr Gordon de Brouwer PSM as the next Australian Public Service (APS) Commissioner. This follows a merit-based selection process chaired by Ms Katherine Jones PSM, Secretary of the Attorney-General’s Department.
His five year term will commence on 11 May 2023 immediately following the retirement of Mr Peter Woolcott AO on 10 May 2023.
King Charles III will be crowned on Saturday 6 May 2023.
The Coronation is a religious ceremony that has remained largely unchanged for over 1,000 years and takes place at Westminster Abbey in London.
