Background

How the care and support economy (which commonly encompasses aged care, veterans care, disability care and early childhood) grows and develops is vital to the wellbeing of the Australian community and health of our economy.

The care and support sectors are a major and growing source of economic activity and employment, and they attract significant government expenditure. Most importantly, they provide essential services to Australians, including some of our most vulnerable community members.

Summary of the Open RAN Security Report

The recent release of the “Open RAN Security Report” concludes that the use of Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN) does not fundamentally alter the security risk landscape for telecommunications, compared to more traditional RAN. Most security threats analyzed in the report affect both traditional network deployments and Open RAN deployments, with only four percent found to be unique to Open RAN.

At the Quad Leaders’ Summit on 24 September 2021, the Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan and the United States of America) launched the Quad Principles on Technology Design, Development, Governance and Use.

The Quad partners recognize the security risks posed by lack of adequate controls to prevent tampering with the software supply chain by adversarial and non-adversarial threats. By leveraging the voice of the Quad, we can promote and strengthen a culture where software security is by design and default. We encourage other nations to adopt these principles in pursuit of this shared vision for secure software.
