Freedom of Information – Business Rules
Purpose
These rules have been developed to:
- ensure staff are aware of PM&C’s legal obligations under the FOI Act
- set out the structure of FOI processing at PM&C, and
- provide guidance for line area staff who are involved in the processing of an FOI request.
First Nations Action Plan: Culture, Career, Capability
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) is proud to release and implement it’s First Nations Action Plan: Culture, Career, Capability.
The Action Plan is in response to the Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Strategy 2020-2024, released by the Australian Public Service Commission in July 2020.
The Strategy represents the Commonwealth’s continued contribution, as an employer, to the ‘Closing the Gap’ agenda.
Gender Balance on Australian Government Boards Report 2018-19

Gender Balance on Australian Government Boards Report 2017-18
Executive summary
The Gender Balance on Australian Government Boards Report is prepared annually by the Australian Government Office for Women, and reports on the Government’s performance against its gender diversity target.
On 1 July 2016, the Government’s target of women holding 50 per cent of Government board positions overall, and men and women each holding at least 40 per cent of positions on individual boards, came into effect. This target replaced the previous gender diversity target of women holding 40 per cent of Australian Government board positions overall.

Terms of Reference - Review of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012
Context
The Government announced in the Women’s Budget Statement 2021-22 a targeted review (the Review) of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (the WGE Act). This followed the Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s 2019-20 Progress Report, which recommended a review of the WGE Act to drive further progress on gender equality in Australia.
The WGE Act replaced the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 and has not been reviewed since its introduction in 2012.
National Survey of Mental Health-Related Stigma and Discrimination
The Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA), in partnership with National Mental Health Commission, has conducted a national survey of mental health-related stigma and discrimination.
Review of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 - consultation paper

Advances continue to be made on gender equality in Australian workplaces. However, there is more to do. The national gender pay gap is 14.2 per cent. There continues to be a substantial workforce participation gap between women and men. More women work part-time (45 per cent) than men (19 per cent). Only a small proportion of men work flexibly or take parental leave. Women make up 33.6 per cent of ASX200 boards. Women are under-represented in senior profit and loss roles in businesses.
