Part 1: Purpose and key activities

PM&C plays a central role in supporting the Prime Minister, Cabinet and portfolio ministers to deliver strong outcomes for the Australian community. We shape government decisions, coordinate action across the Australian Public Service (APS), and provide clear, high-quality advice on the issues that matter most.

As the lead department for the APS, we bring a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation perspective to our work. We work closely with our partners across government, industry and the community to respond to emerging challenges and deliver lasting outcomes.

Purpose

To support the Prime Minister, Cabinet and our portfolio ministers to improve the lives of all Australians, advance Australia’s interests, and keep our country safe and prosperous.

Outcome and program

Outcome 1: Provide high-quality policy advice and support to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet, portfolio ministers and assistant ministers through coordination of government activities, policy development and program delivery.
