Welcoming the Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement

During his visit to London, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street to discuss the Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement, AUKUS and our efforts to support an open, prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region.

In their third meeting, the leaders welcomed the historic Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA) coming into force on 31 May this year, following the expected completion of UK domestic processes. Australia remains focused on delivering significant opportunities for our business, consumers and workers. 

APS Commissioner appointment – Dr Gordon de Brouwer

The Prime Minister and the Minister for the Public Service today announced the Albanese Government will recommend the Governor General appoint Dr Gordon de Brouwer PSM as the next Australian Public Service (APS) Commissioner. This follows a merit-based selection process chaired by Ms Katherine Jones PSM, Secretary of the Attorney-General’s Department.

His five year term will commence on 11 May 2023 immediately following the retirement of Mr Peter Woolcott AO on 10 May 2023.

Australia announces gift to The King

On behalf of the people of Australia, the Australian Government has announced a national contribution of $10,000 to the charity Friends of the Western Ground Parrot, in honour of The King’s Coronation.

The contribution will go towards the conservation of the Western Ground Parrot. Known as Kyloring by the Noongar people, it is critically endangered and is one of the rarest parrots in the world with a population estimated at less than 150 birds. 

Portfolio Budget Statements 2023 - 2024

The purpose of the 2023-24 Portfolio Budget Statements (PB Statements) is to inform Senators and Members of Parliament of the proposed allocation of resources to government outcomes by entities within the portfolio. Entities receive resources from the annual appropriations acts, special appropriations (including standing appropriations and special accounts), and revenue from other sources.

Visit to Brisbane by New Zealand Prime Minister The Rt Hon Chris Hipkins

This weekend, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed Prime Minister of New Zealand, The Rt Hon Chris Hipkins to Brisbane. It was Prime Minister Hipkins’ second visit to Australia as leader.

Prime Minister Hipkins’ visit is in the lead up to ANZAC Day – a commemoration of a formative time in Australia and New Zealand’s shared history.
