A State Funeral for the Honourable Anthony (Tony) Staley AO will be held at 11.00am on Wednesday 17 May 2023 at St John’s Anglican Church, Toorak, Victoria.

In 1970, Mr Staley was elected to the seat of Chisholm. He later became Minister for the Capital Territory and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Arts from 1976 to 1977, and Minister for Post and Telecommunications from 1977 to 1980. He retired from the Australian Parliament in 1980.

The Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet advises a State Funeral Service for Father Robert (Bob) John Maguire AM RFD will take place at 11am on Friday 5 May 2023 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne, Victoria.

Following his ordination as a Catholic priest, Father Bob served across several Victorian parishes, as an army chaplain and became parish priest of Saints Peter and Paul’s in South Melbourne.

A State Funeral for the Honourable John Kerin AO will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 14 April 2023 in the Members’ Dining Room, Old Parliament House, Queen Victoria Terrace, Parkes, ACT.

Mr Kerin was the Minister for Primary Industry from 1983 to 1987 and Minister for Primary Industries and Energy from 1987 to 1991. Following this in 1991 he was appointed as Treasurer, before taking on the appointment of Minister for Transport and Communications. The Northern Territory Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet advises a State Funeral for Mr Lawrence Costa MLA will be held at 9:00am (Australian Central Standard Time) on Wednesday 1 March 2023, at St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral, Darwin, Northern Territory.

81st Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin

The Northern Territory Government has requested half-masting of flags to mark the 81st Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin on Sunday 19 February 2023.

On 19 February 1942, mainland Australia came under attack for the first time when Japanese forces mounted two air raids on Darwin. The two attacks involved 54 land-based bombers and approximately 188 attack aircraft, which were launched from four Japanese aircraft-carriers in the Timor Sea.
