The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide Implementation Taskforce

The taskforce was established to oversee a whole-of-government approach to implementing recommendations from the Royal Commission.

To support the implementation of recommendations from the Royal Commission, the government established a Commonwealth-led Implementation Taskforce within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The role of the taskforce was to oversee the development of a whole-of-government approach to implementing the government’s response to the final report. This included the provision of considered advice to the government on implementation and sequencing options for the recommendations.

The taskforce closed operations on Friday 19 December 2025.

Significant process has been made since the Royal Commission handed down its final report to government. Of the Royal Commission's 122 recommendations:

  • 32 are expected to be implemented by the end of December 2025
  • a further 89 recommendations are in progress or under consideration.

This is the result of joint work within Defence, Department of Veterans' Affairs and across government, informed by important contributions from the community with lived experience, veterans, peak bodies and experts.
