Australian Flags booklet

Australian Flags can be used as an educational resource and a source of general information about the history and proper use of the Australian National Flag and other flags of Australia by the Australian community, flag marshals and visitors to Australia.

Requesting Australian flags

Senators and Members of the Australian Parliament may distribute official flags to certain eligible groups under the Nationhood Material Program. This includes the Australian National Flag, the Australian Aboriginal Flag and the Torres Strait Islander Flag.

Australians may request an official flag through their Federal Member of the House of Representatives or Senator in their state or territory.

Please be aware that the availability of flags depends on each Parliamentarian's annual office expense budget, demand, and their respective internal policies. As such, the number of flags may be limited, which may mean prioritising particular individuals or organisations. It is also expected there is an element of formality in the act and/or ceremony in which large flags are presented to an individual or organisation.

As policies regarding the availability of resources under the Nationhood Material Program may be periodically updated, please refer to the PM&C and the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority websites for the most up-to-date information and guidance.
