Australia’s population story is one of strong growth. Each state and city and region has its own population story and these have varied over time. In general,
growth has been strongest in Australia’s cities, although some regional areas have also grown strongly.

The Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) has established the Audit and Risk Committee (the Committee) in accordance with section 45 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and section 17 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule 2014 (PGPA Rule) (Audit Committee for Commonwealth entities).
Australia has a system of honours and awards to recognise excellence, achievement and meritorious service or contributions to our society. The Australian honours system awards those citizens who have contributed to a better society because of their sacrifice, service and achievement. Recipients of awards are role models of our values and standards.

The Australian National Anthem identifies Australia at home and overseas and is used at official and public ceremonies and sporting and community events. From 1 January 2021, the second line of the Australian National Anthem was changed from ‘For we are young and free’ to ‘For we are one and free’.
The Australian National Anthem was amended on 1 January 2021 by proclamation of the Governor-General His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd).
