Delivering a Common Future - Connecting Innovating Transforming

Commonwealth Day is celebrated every year by 54 Commonwealth countries on the second Monday in March. This year it falls on 9 March.

The aim of commemorating Commonwealth Day is to promote understanding of global issues, international co-operation and the work of the Commonwealth of Nations to improve the lives of its citizens.

Citizens of all 54 countries are invited to hold events and activities on the day which promote these principles. Activities may include debates, school assemblies, flag raising ceremonies, street parties and multicultural events or multi-faith services.

The theme for Commonwealth Day 2020 is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.

‘This year’s theme was chosen because the governments and people of the diverse family of 54 Commonwealth countries connect at many levels through extensive and deep-rooted networks of friendship and goodwill.‘

As part of the celebrations, the Australian flag will be flown all day on Australian Government buildings and establishments.

Further information about Commonwealth Day 2020 is available on the Commonwealth Website. It includes resources which promote the day such as a poster and social media toolkit.
