Secretaries Board communique: 28 January 2026

The Secretaries Board met today at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to discuss the following matters.

Strategic Outlook

The Board discussed government priorities, strategic issues and emerging risks.

The Board received an update on geostrategic issues from Ms Jan Adams AO PSM, Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Mr Greg Moriarty AO, Secretary, Department of Defence.

The Board received an economic and budget update from Ms Jenny Wilkinson PSM, Secretary, Department of the Treasury, and Mr Matt Yannopoulos PSM, Secretary, Department of Finance.

Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion

The Board received an update from Ms Katherine Jones PSM, Secretary, Attorney-General’s Department on the Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion.

The Year Ahead

The Board discussed priorities and opportunities for the Board in the year ahead.

Other Business

The Board welcomed Ms Victoria Anderson to her first Secretaries Board meeting and congratulated her on her recent appointment as Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

The Board acknowledged the contribution of Dr Gordon de Brouwer PSM, Australian Public Service Commissioner, following his announcement that he will be departing the Australian Public Service (APS) in February 2026. The Board thanked him for his significant service to the public and the APS, including as a member of the Board.

The Board congratulated Mr Greg Moriarty AO, Secretary, Department of Defence, on the announcement of the Government’s nomination of him to be appointed as Australia’s next Ambassador to the United States of America.
