Secretaries Board communique: 21 May 2025

The Secretaries Board met at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to discuss the following matters.

Strategic Outlook

The Board discussed government priorities, emerging risks and strategic issues.

The Board received an update on geostrategic issues from Ms Jan Adams AO PSM, Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Mr Greg Moriarty AO Secretary, Department of Defence.

The Board received an economic and budget update from Ms Jenny Wilkinson PSM, Secretary of the Department of Finance, and Dr Steven Kennedy PSM, Secretary of the Treasury.

CALD Strategic Update

The Board noted the CALD Strategy Implementation Update and received a briefing on the CALD SES Benchmark Data.

First Nations Partnerships Playbook

The Board endorsed the First Nations Partnership Playbook as an APS resource to provide practical guidance on building and maintaining partnerships and shared decision-making with First Nations peoples, communities and organisations.

Capability and Workforce Committee: Progress Report

The Board noted the bi-annual report from the Capability and Workforce Committee.

Secretaries Digital and Data Committee (SDDC) Performance Report 1 July – 31 December 2024

The Board noted the biannual report from the Secretaries Digital and Data Committee.

Other Business

The Board acknowledged the contribution of Professor Glyn Davis AC, Secretary, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, following the announcement he would be stepping down in June 2025. The Board thanked him for his significant contribution to and leadership of the Australian Public Service, including as Chair of the Board.
