The Australian Government established an expert panel to undertake a Rapid Review of Prevention Approaches (Rapid Review) to build on and accelerate the considerable work underway under the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 (the National Plan).
On 23 August 2024, the Australian Government received the expert panel’s final report, Unlocking the Prevention Potential: accelerating action to end domestic, family and sexual violence. The report was shared with state and territory governments.
Shortly after, on 6 September 2024, National Cabinet agreed to a $4.7 billion package to prevent violence and support legal services, responding to a number of the Rapid Review’s key recommendations. As a priority, the Australian Government is implementing measures announced at National Cabinet.
National Cabinet also agreed to respond progressively to the 21 recommendations set out in the Rapid Review. This includes responses through the National Plan and its action plans, with development of the Second Action Plan starting shortly. The Women and Women’s Safety Ministerial Council (the Council) is overseeing this progressive response.
On 28 November 2025, the Council published a comprehensive Australian Government, state and territory collective response to the Rapid Review, and in late 2025, submitted its report on progress of the Rapid Review to National Cabinet.
This 20 February 2026 point in time update:
- details commitments and actions by the Australian Government in response to the Rapid Review recommendations
- only includes Australian Government efforts and does not incorporate actions by states and territories
- also refers to some efforts that started before the Rapid Review as their delivery forms a critical part of the Government's response to its recommendations.
