This working paper formed the basis of an address to the Department of the Environment and Water Resources Workshop “The Economics of Heritage: integrating costs and benefits of heritage into government decision making” Canberra, 11 October 2007. The paper provides an example of the application of cost-benefit analysis, in this case to historic heritage regulation.

Official creation of awards
The Australian honours system dates from 1975 when the Order of Australia and the Australian Bravery Decorations were approved by The Queen. Since then, new awards have progressively been added to the system. There are a total of 58 awards in the Australian system of honours.
