Australian National Flag Day

Australian National Flag Day on 3 September 2025 marks 124 years since the Australian National Flag was first officially flown in 1901 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne – the site of Australia’s first Parliament. 

Australian National Flag Day is an opportunity for all Australians to observe this anniversary by flying or displaying the flag.

Victoria Police Officer Tragedy

The Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet issued a request on Wednesday, 27 August 2025 for flags to be flown at half-mast for two Victoria Police officers who lost their lives on 26 August 2025 in the line of duty in the Victorian Alpine town of Porepunkah.

The Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet advises that a State Funeral Service for the Honourable Brian James Dixon will take place at 10.30 am on Friday, 25 July 2025 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, 1 Cathedral Place, East Melbourne, Victoria.

NAIDOC Week is held every year in early July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements, and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that First Nations Australians make to our country and to our society.

Mr Arthur Leslie Leggett OAM (1918 - 2025)

A State Funeral Service for Arthur Leslie Leggett OAM will take place at 10.30 am on Saturday, 10 May 2025 at Elder Hall, at St George’s Cathedral, Perth, Western Australia.

Mr Leggett was Western Australia’s oldest and last surviving Army World War II prisoner of war. He first enlisted for military service in 1936, becoming part of the newly raised Cameron Highlanders of Western Australia, before joining the first World War II Australian Imperial Force unit raised in WA, the 2/11th Battalion, 6th Division.
