The Honourable Peter Morris OAM 1932 - 2026.

A State Funeral Service for the Honourable Peter Morris OAM will take place at 11.00 am on Friday 12 June 2026 at Pettigrew Family Funerals Chapel, 7 Murray Dwyer Circuit, Mayfield West, NSW.

In 1972, Mr Morris was elected to the House of Representatives for Shortland, New South Wales. From 1983 to 1990, Mr Morris served in the Hawke Government, holding several ministerial appointments, including: 

  • Minister for Transport
  • Minister for Aviation
  • Minister for Resources
  • Minister for Housing and Aged Care
  • Minister Assisting the Prime Minister
  • Minister Assisting the Treasurer
  • Minister for Transport and Communications Support
  • Cabinet Minister
  • Minister for Industrial Relations
  • Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Public Service Matters

Mr Morris retired from politics in 1998.

In 2012, Mr Morris received the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the Parliament of Australia through a range of ministerial portfolios, and to the maritime industry and ship safety.

Family, friends, representatives of organisations and members of the public are welcome to attend the State Funeral Service. Members of the public will be shown to seating in order of arrival until the venue reaches capacity.

Doors will open at 9.30 am. Attendees are kindly requested to be seated by 10.30 am. Ushers will be on hand to assist with seating.
