Congratulations to the recipients in The King’s Birthday 2026 Honours List, who were announced today by the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.

The achievements of 949 exceptional Australians have been formally recognised for their service and achievement in the community and public service, industry and academia, science, the arts and sport The Honours List includes:

  • 703 recipients of awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia
  • 34 recipients of awards in the Military Division of the Order of Australia
  • 149 Meritorious awards
  • 63 Distinguished and Conspicuous awards

The Order of Australia is one of the nation’s highest forms of recognition for outstanding achievement and service. People from all backgrounds and all parts of Australia are honoured and celebrated through the Order.

“Our honours system recognises outstanding people who contribute so much to Australia. In our communities, in workplaces and across the country, recipients have made an exceptional contribution to Australia,” the Governor-General said.

The gender balance in the Order of Australia for this honours list has improved by 5 per cent but is still a long way from representing our community. The gender imbalance that persists in the Order of Australia will only change if more people from across the broad Australian community nominate exceptional women for recognition.

Action is encouraged to help address this imbalance. It should not be assumed that others will put a nomination forward.

By nominating an outstanding woman you know, you can help ensure her contribution is properly considered, seen and valued.
