Dr Peter Norvig, Director of Research at Google Inc, shares with Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation Angus Taylor MP, how Google maximises the use of data to deliver innovative products and services to its customers.

In this third of our tech talk series, Dr Norvig shares how data supplies better evidence to inform Government decision-making; better understanding of what works and why, and better social and economic outcomes.

Transparency is key to building public trust in data use. Governments and businesses may be thought of as data shepherds, as the data is generated by individuals. Individuals should therefore have clear explanations about how their data is used, including commitments to privacy and benefits of participating.

As a leading expert in artificial intelligence, Dr Norvig also shares his experience with predictive algorithms to improve economic and social outcomes.

The Data Tech-Talk series supports other Federal Government data initiatives including the response to the Productivity Commission’s inquiry into Data Availability and Use and establishment of the Data Integration Partnership for Australia (DIPA)
