Today the Prime Minister tabled the 11th Closing the Gap Report in Parliament.

The report reveals that the early childhood education and Year 12 attainment targets are on track and important progress has been made in health and education.

This is the final report against the framework established in 2008, and marks a transition to the next phase of Closing the Gap. In December 2018, COAG committed to forming a genuine formal partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to finalise the Closing the Gap Refresh (by mid-2019) and provide a forum for ongoing engagement throughout implementation of the new agenda.

Today the Government also announced changes to the Commonwealth's Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP), to ensure Indigenous businesses continue to reap the benefits of doing business with government.

These changes are on the back of successful third-year results, where every Commonwealth portfolio exceeded their target of delivering at least 3% of contracts to Indigenous businesses. Since the commencement of the IPP in 2015, 1473 Indigenous businesses have won 11,933 contracts valued in total at over $1.83 billion.
