Closing the Gap Prime Minister's Report 2018

Today the Prime Minister delivered the 10th annual Closing the Gap Report to Parliament.

For the first time since 2011, three out of the seven Closing the Gap targets are on track to be met.

Today, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, on average, live longer than ever before. Around 14,700 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are enrolled in early childhood education the year before full-time school, and more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are staying in school through to Year 12.

The report reveals important progress in key areas and showcases local achievements and individual stories of success from across the country.

With four of the existing targets expiring this year, the Closing the Gap agenda will shift to focus on the Closing the Gap Refresh.
