The Honourable Jocelyn Newman AO 1937 - 2018

A State Funeral Service for the Honourable Jocelyn Newman AO will take place at 1.00 pm on Friday 13 April, 2018 in the ANZAC Memorial Chapel of St Paul, corner of Robert Campbell and Miles Roads, Royal Military College Duntroon, Canberra, ACT.

Mrs Newman was a Senator for Tasmania from 1986-2002 and held four ministerial posts: Minister for Family and Community Services (1998-2001), Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women (1998-2001), Minister for Social Security (1996-1998) and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women (1996-1997).

Mrs Newman was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2005 for her service to the community. This included her contributions to the development of government policies in relation to social security reform, advocacy for women's issues, particularly in the health and welfare areas, and her support of local organisations in Tasmania.

Family, friends, representatives of organisations and members of the public are welcome to attend the State Funeral. There will be reserved seating for those on the Commonwealth Table of Precedence, the immediate family and close family friends. All other seating will be in order of arrival until capacity is reached at the venue.

Doors will open at 12 noon. Guests are requested to be seated by 12.30 pm. Ushers will be on hand to assist with seating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to White Ribbon Australia or the Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland.
