On 31 March 2020, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) awarded Australian Bravery Decorations to 83 individuals who, without thought of personal risk, displayed courage and bravery to protect or defend others.

The list of recipients and their citation for bravery is available on the Governor-General’s website. Recipients who have agreed to be identified can be searched through the Australian Honours database.

Decorations awarded include:

  • Star of Courage: 1 for an act of conspicuous courage in circumstances of great peril.
  • Bravery Medal: 17 for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances.
  • Commendation for Brave Conduct: 17 for acts of bravery which are considered worthy of recognition.
  • Group Bravery Citation: 7 (48 individuals) for a collective act of bravery by a group of persons in extraordinary circumstances that are considered worthy of recognition.
