Isolated families affected by the floods in North Queensland are now eligible for a one-off $1,000 payment to help with education and related costs.

The Flood Education Supplement is available to families who receive Assistance for Isolated Children or ABSTUDY payments. Families must also be living in one of the affected Local Government Areas in North Queensland.

Families receiving one of the qualifying payments don’t need to do anything further to receive the Flood Education Supplement – it will automatically be paid into their bank account by 23 April 2019.

Families wishing to claim Assistance for Isolated Children or ABSTUDY, have until 23 April 2019 to apply and still be eligible for the Flood Education Supplement.

The qualifying Local Government Areas are:

  • Burdekin
  • Burke
  • Carpentaria
  • Cloncurry
  • Douglas
  • Flinders
  • Hinchinbrook
  • McKinlay
  • Richmond
  • Townsville
  • Winton

Further information about the Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme is available on the Department of Human Services website.
