The Expert Panel (the panel) of the Social Impact Investing Taskforce has delivered its interim report to Government for consideration.

The Taskforce was announced as part of the 2019-20 Budget, and is responsible for developing a strategy for the Commonwealth’s role in the social impact investing market. Social impact investments are made with the intention of generating measurable social outcomes, while delivering a financial return to the investor.

The Chair of the panel, Michael Traill AM, said the interim report brings together the Taskforce’s findings to date, and follows extensive consultation and research.

‘This report reflects our emerging vision on how business, government and community sectors can work together through social impact investing to reduce entrenched disadvantage,’ Mr Traill said.

‘It recommends practical first steps towards what will be an ambitious final strategy – one that will support Australians experiencing disadvantage to more fully participate in the economic and social life of the nation.’

The interim report represents the views of the panel, and has not been endorsed by Government.

The panel will deliver its final recommendations to Government by mid-2020.
