Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Amendment (Delegation) Regulation 2014 – Exposure Draft

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) was established on 1 July 2019. Prior to this the functions of the Agency were delivered by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). We are currently working through this transition and some content is yet to be transferred between websites. For the latest news from NIAA visit niaa.gov.au.

Public Consultation

The proposed Regulation does not change the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth) (Land Rights Act) but is designed to improve the workability of an existing provision of the Land Rights Act. It does this by establishing a timely and consistent process by which Aboriginal corporations can apply for a delegation of Land Council functions under section 28A of the Act. The proposed Regulation provides for a six month timeframe for Land Councils to decide on section 28A applications and sets out what information corporations must include in their application.
