Indigenous Cadetship Support

IMPORTANT: Indigenous Cadetship Support changes from 1 January 2018

On 18 September 2013, responsibility for this Programme was transferred from the Department of Employment to the Indigenous Affairs Group, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. On 1 July 2014, it was included under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) also administered by the Department.

The Department is now making changes to align Indigenous cadetship funding with the IAS. This will assist in better meeting employer’s needs and reducing red tape.

From 1 January 2018, the ICS programme will cease in its current form. This will mean that individual ICS agreements commencing Semester 1 2018 onwards will not be accepted. Instead employers will need to apply for Cadetship funding through the Tailored Assistance Employment Grant (TAEG) process.

The Department will continue to honour its ICS funding obligations for all current ICS agreements.
