Australian Corrections Medal

The Australian Corrections Medal is awarded for distinguished service by an operational member of an Australian state or territory civilian correctional service for adults.

How it is awarded

The Governor-General awards the Australian Corrections Medal on the recommendation of the responsible State or Territory first minister or minister.

The medal is awarded annually as follows:

  • One medal for every 1000, or part of 1000, full-time equivalent members of a State or Territory’s correctional service.
  • One additional medal may be awarded for each State or Territory that has more than 1,000 full-time equivalent correctional service members.

Awards are announced in January and June each year.

Only one award can be made to an individual. Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal ACM.

History

The Australian Corrections Medal was established on 19 June 2017 by Letters Patent.

On 23 December 2021, amendments to the Australian Corrections Medal Regulations were approved by Her Majesty the Queen enabling the recognition of COVID-19 related service above the annual quotas.

Medal design

The Australian Corrections Medal is a circular nickel-silver medal featuring the Federation Star bearing the scales of justice surrounded by a laurel of Australian wattle. The back of the medal is inscribed with the recipient’s name surrounded by a laurel of Australian wattle.

Medal Ribbon

The 32 millimetre-wide ribbon features a central band of blue flanked by white and mustard green stripes.
