We want to hear from Australians about how AI should be developed, used and governed in ways that advance our national interest.
This consultation is seeking feedback on proposed requirements for large data centres, and conditions for AI training in Australia.
How to share your views
Please read the full consultation paper before making a submission.
The paper explains important information about proposed requirements, why they are being considered, and what we are seeking feedback on.
You can then complete the online submission form to share your views on AI infrastructure and AI training in Australia. You do not need to answer every question. You can choose to respond only to the topics that are most relevant to you.
You can provide additional information, evidence or detailed feedback by uploading a supporting document. Uploading a document is optional and is not required to complete your submission.
Submissions close at 5 pm AEDT on Friday 9 October 2026.
You can save your submission and return to it at any time during the consultation period. However, only submissions that have been completed and formally submitted before the consultation closes will be considered. Any draft submissions that have not been completed by the closing date will be deleted and will not be considered in the consultation process.
Responses received through the submission form will be considered alongside targeted stakeholder engagement and ongoing work with Commonwealth, state and territory governments. Together, this feedback will help inform the development of Australia's AI standards.
Privacy notice
The privacy and security of your personal information is important to us, and is protected by law.
Should you choose to provide it, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (the department) is collecting your personal information (title, name, contact details, organisation (if applicable) to inform the government’s consultation regarding the development of Australia’s AI standards. Other than the above, please do not include personal or identifying information throughout the submission.
For the same purpose(s), we may provide this information, including your submission, to government departments, agencies and ministers’ offices where it is related to their portfolio responsibilities for the development and implementation of Australia’s AI standards.
Providing personal information is voluntary. You may choose to make a submission anonymously. Anonymous submissions may still be considered and, where appropriate, published in accordance with the department's publication arrangements. However, if you do not provide contact details, the department will be unable to contact you to seek clarification or additional information about your submission. The department may decide not to publish a submission, or may publish it in a modified form, where publication would be inappropriate, unlawful, or inconsistent with the purposes of the consultation.
The department will not use or disclose the information collected from you, other than for the purpose(s) described above, unless you have provided consent for us to do this, or we are authorised or required to do so by law.
Use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in reviewing submissions
To assist with the analysis of submissions, the department may use approved artificial intelligence (AI) tools to identify themes, trends and common issues raised in submissions, generate summaries of consultation feedback, and support departmental analysis. Any use of AI will be undertaken in accordance with the department's privacy, security, and information management requirements. The department will take reasonable steps to minimise personal information being processed through AI, including by providing clear instructions to respondents and applying appropriate screening and de-identification controls before AI-assisted analysis.
The department’s Privacy Policy explains how the department handles and protects the information provided by you. Our Privacy Policy also explains how you can request access to, or correct the personal information we hold about you, and who to contact if you have a privacy enquiry or complaint.
