2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is made up of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – a roadmap for global development efforts and beyond.

Visit Australia’s Sustainable Development Goals page for more information.

Goal 5: Gender

Goal 5 seeks to “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. It is underpinned by targets and indicators.

The Government’s policy priorities are consistent with advancing this goal, including key domestic strategies and activities such as the Third Action Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, the Women’s Workforce Participation Strategy and BoardLinks.

In addition, Australia works to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls globally, with activities in support of Goal 5 a central focus of Australia’s diplomatic, development and regional security efforts. Visit the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website for further information on our global activities.

Goal 5 is complementary to and operationalised through a number of the other Sustainable Development Goals, including gender targets in other goals.
