Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet

Last week the Department assisted the Prime Minister in hosting an Iftar dinner at Kirribilli House in Sydney.

There were media reports today (22 June 2016) stating some guests refused to eat from plates previously used by non-Muslims.

This allegation is completely false. The meal was prepared and served using equipment supplied by Kirribilli House and a contracted caterer. Additional equipment from the contracted caterer was only supplied due to the size of the function and not because of any religious sensitivities. There were no issues raised by guests with regards to religious sensitivities surrounding the use of crockery, cutlery or share plates.
