Australia’s engagement at the 63rd session of the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63) is now underway. The two-week session started on Monday 11 March and continues to Friday 22 March at the UN Headquarters in New York.

CSW63’s focus is social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The review theme for CSW63 is women’s empowerment and the link to sustainable development (evaluating the implementation of the agreed conclusions of the 60th session).

The Minister for Women, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP, leads the CSW63 Australian delegation, which includes Ambassador for Women and Girls, Dr Sharman Stone; Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Ms Kate Jenkins; eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant; Director of Australia’s Workplace Gender Equality Agency, Libby Lyons; Head of the Office for Women, Trish Bergin; Principal Specialist, Gender in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Amy Haddad; Assistant Secretary in the Office for Women, Rachel Livingston; and Australian civil society representatives, Robyn Nolan and Nicola Wakefield Evans.

The next two weeks will see Australia demonstrate its commitment to achieving gender equality through an extensive programme of Australian-hosted side events, showcasing Australia’s best practice approaches to enhancing economic and social outcomes for women everywhere.
