The Indigenous Business Sector Strategy was launched by the Prime Minister in February 2018. Laura Berry, CEO of Supply Nation has been discussing the benefits of Indigenous-owned businesses to the Australian economy.

“A lot of Indigenous businesses are small to medium enterprises and we know that SMEs are the lifeblood of the Australian economy,” said Ms Berry.

“Growing that sector and having Indigenous businesses generating revenue, paying taxes, employing more Australians is only going to benefit the Australian economy overall.”

The economic benefits for Indigenous business owners and their families and communities are clear, but the impact of the Indigenous business sector on the Australian economy is often overlooked. The Indigenous business sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in Australia. Under the Indigenous Procurement Policy, Supply Nation-registered Indigenous businesses are delivering over $1 billion in goods and services for the government.

Supply Nation is a vital partner in the Australian Government’s work to build an even more successful and prosperous Indigenous business sector in Australia. To assist government buyers to procure Indigenous services, Indigenous Business Direct provides a listing of organisations by activity and experience. Supply Nation also works to embed Indigenous business in supply chains across the country.
