If you are hearing or speech-impaired, you may wish to use the department's TTY facility on (02) 6271 5610 to obtain further information.
Eligibility to Apply
To be eligible for engagement, applicants must be Australian citizens.
There are also restrictions on the employment of people who have accepted a redundancy benefit from an APS Agency or a non-APS Commonwealth employer within the previous 12 months. This includes any payment as a result of the shortening of a retention period or payment made to an SES employee under Section 37 of the Public Service ACT 1999 from an APS Agency or non-APS Commonwealth employer.
All employment opportunities advertised in the Public Service Gazette are open to all Australians unless the employment opportunity is marked with a
which indicates that the job is only open to employees of the Australian Public Service.
Security Requirements
All PM&C staff require a security clearance of at least ‘Protected’. A higher level of clearance may be required for certain positions or areas of the Department. To be eligible for such a clearance, you must be an Australian citizen.
Applicants must be able to provide detailed personal information covering the past ten years. This may include previous employment, previous addresses, financial information and other details such as overseas travel.
TopPreparing your Application
Frame your application around the selection criteria by addressing each of the criteria to promote your claims. Include:
- a completed 'Personal Details' form as a cover sheet (see below)
- a summary of your work experience
- a statement in support of your application which briefly describes how you consider yourself suitable against each selection criterion
- the names of at least two referees (one of whom would usually be a current supervisor) who could provide comments on your work performance and an assessment against the selection criteria, and
- any further relevant information.
'Personal Details' cover sheet should be attached to your application. The cover sheet is available for download.
Should you be asked to supply referees' reports, you may wish to access the department's template for referees' reports and rating scale for referees.
These documents are available in two formats: PDF and WORD. When downloaded, the WORD format document can be completed electronically and attached to an email reply, or printed out and faxed or mailed. The PDF format can be downloaded or printed, completed manually and faxed or mailed.
TopLodging your Application
Applications will state how the application is to be submitted. Generally, applications should be lodged online.
If you are unable to access the online system you may lodge your application via email to recruitment@pmc.gov.au or by sending your application and supporting documentation to:
The Recruitment Officer
Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
PO Box 6500
CANBERRA ACT 2600
Please note
- You may be asked to provide original documents for verification purposes (e.g. educational qualifications, citizenship documentation etc). Arrangements can be made for the safe handling of these documents.
- It is strongly recommended that you check the selection documentation relating to the position for which you are applying as lodgement requirements may vary.
- Applications which are submitted in hard copy will not normally be acknowledged on receipt. However, if you would like to check that your application has been received you can request an acknowledgment either by faxing (02) 6271 5533 or by emailing recruitment@pmc.gov.au.
Late applications
Generally late applications will not be accepted. If you are not able to lodge a full application by the closing date due to extenuating circumstances, you may discuss your situation with the Contact Officer. If granted an extension you must ensure that a complete application is forwarded by the date agreed with the Contact Officer to be considered for the employment opportunity. Applications not received by the agreed date will not be followed up.
Progress of your application
You may ask the Contact Officer at any time about the progress of your application.
TopSelection Process
The department is committed to making employment decisions on the basis of merit. Selection methods may vary depending on the circumstances but will be based on an assessment against the selection criteria. Interviews may not be conducted in all cases. A selection process may be based on applications and referee reports.
Availability for Interview
Unless you advise the Contact Officer otherwise, the department will consider you available for interview from the date applications close. Where possible, the Selection Committee will give you at least four working days notice of your interview.
Questions about Specific Vacancies
If you have any questions about the job, the functional area in which the employment opportunity exists or your eligibility to apply, the Contact Officer will be able to assist you.
