OECD Working Party on Information Security and Privacy (WPISP)
The APEC Data Privacy Sub-Group is closely involved in the work of the OECD Working Party on Information Security and Privacy, which has a strong privacy theme to its work.
The WPISP is chaired by Australia. In 2007 the WPISP completed the ‘OECD Recommendation on Cross-border Co-operation in the Enforcement of Laws Protecting Privacy’. This is consistent with work being undertaken by APEC, and APEC is already building upon the WPISP work. In June 2007 the OECD Secretariat obtained observer status at APEC Data Privacy Sub-Group meetings and has subsequently participated in the Sub-Group’s meetings. This was an important practical step in strengthening the close relationship with the OECD and to continue cooperative and consistent approaches to this work.
